GM clamping unit, principle
Two small diameter cylinders provide mold movement and displace the 4 locking columns to the fully closed position. A thrust plate is driven behind the 4 locking columns to permit transmission of locking force. The clamping cylinder applies the clamping force to the mold via the thrust plate, which bears on the 4 locking columns. Decompression of the clamping cylinder, followed by a minimal retraction stroke, allows the thrust plate to disengage. The 2 cylinders draw the mold open to the desired opening stroke.
